faith and religion

Mon Jul 14, 2008, 4:36 AM
so yesterday i was contemplating my faith and what it means. i, personally, am a christian. i have followed the faith since i was small and chose to be baptised when i was seven. the church i grew up in was quite fundamentalist, and as i have gotten older, my faith has become more progressive. it saddens me that a substantial portion of the christian church, in my opinion, is getting lost in the motions and is forgetting the very roots of our faith. they focus on the action, not the heart, the number of conversions instead of dynamic heart changes, condemnation as opposed to redemption. i am by no means saying that actions are bad, that conversions are bad or that one doesn't need to realize there own faults, but that's not what its all about. ii would rather see 1 person have their life turned totally upside-down from really coming to a deep, intense knowledge of christ than 10 be "saved" through some sort of tv infomercial. faith is about the heart, not how many times you pray during the day or whether you have a perfect church attendance record. christianity from its roots is about love. in the bible it says, "god is love," "but the greatest of these is love", "love one another as i have loved you", "for god so loved the world" and so on. christ died because he loved us. god wanted to save us because he loves us. so why then do we approach those unfamiliar with our faith by blasting their faults in their face and preaching fire and brimstone. we really should be preaching hope and peace. yes, there are bad things in this world, yes there is pain but our job as christians is to relieve that, to take action and to lift these hurting people up... not strip them of any hope might have left.
